                            - The chapter investigates complex attributions in German and English noun phrases addressing a number of puzzles in relation to typological (Dryer) and language processing claims (Hawkins). While right-branching prenominal adjective phrases are prohibited in both languages (*a proud of her mother girl), strategies are applied to soften the prohibition to a degree (ready-to-eat meal, ?fein genuger Staub). The discussion hypothesises German adjective inflection as a phrase border signal and shows that no reduction to few explanatory principles is possible. A small quantitative survey confirms the overall finding that complex noun attribution in both languages is more similar than often claimed.
