                            - The proposed new mechanism for the generation of rogue waves motivated experiments in which the authors’ stated “we confirm theoretical predictions of Refs. [18,19] by providing a detailed experimental observation of the regularization of sharp transitions from a super-Gaussian pulse in the presence of focusing nonlinearity.” (Opt. Lett. 43, 2864, 2018). Based on our predictions, DSTL funded work on fibre optic applications (DSTLX-1000116851; £107K) and this was complemented by the award of EPSRC grant (EP/R00515X/1; £270k) to develop the theory. Significance was further recognised by an invited talk at the SIAM Conference on Nonlinear Waves and Coherent Structures (California, 2018).
