                                - This 90,000 word, single-authored monograph, is the result of four years of research. Each of the six chapters advances a significant and original thesis, and engages with as much primary material and scholarship as a journal article. The monograph intervenes in a number of different debates (e.g. the relationship between orality and textuality; dialogues between literary, visual and audio-visual media). It engages in depth with existing scholarship on the concept of voice from a range of fields (critical theory, literary, film, visual and performance studies), and develops a novel approach to the topic through its focus on adaptation.
