- This monograph is based on 4 years of sustained research involving the collection and analysis of a large body of material collected in specialist libraries and museums in the UK and Italy. Key primary sources were accessible only via the Museo Nazionale Romano in Rome. The source material was thoroughly contextualised and analysed from different perspectives. The complex investigation of the evidence and critical insights were dependent upon the development of innovative theoretical standpoints by the author derived from new materialism, posthumanism and the application of assemblage theory.
