                            - This article presents a new approach to the analysis of long-term thermal behaviour of energy pile systems, and shows for the first time how the Dynamic Thermal Network approach to analysis of time-varying heat transfer can be applied to energy piles. This model enables the required design analysis to be made, taking into account 3D effects, with a high computational efficiency. The paper also demonstrates the significance of different ground surface boundary condition treatments. Validation used full-scale experimental data via collaboration with Belgium through the EU GEOTeCH project (Ref. 656889) that has resulted in four full-scale demonstration building installations.
