                            - The paper advances the modelling of fracture propagation in brittle materials using a novel numerical technique (a scaled boundary method) on which Augarde has published more widely. The paper covers international collaboration between Hohai University, China and Durham including a two-year visit by a Chinese PhD student to Durham (the first author). The paper led on to Royal Society funding in 2015-16 to develop the collaboration, including academic visits both ways between Hohai and Durham and an international workshop on fracture modelling held at Durham (10/8/16).
