- Going to the Dogs is the only academic study of greyhound racing in Britain. It is an original contribution to the topic and is based upon a rigorous examination of a variety of business records, police records, Mass Observation reports, newspaper reports, parliamentary papers, and royal commissions. Significantly, it relates its findings to the wider issue of working -class leisure in the twentieth century, and the debates on rational recreation and gambling. A recent review by Professor Robert Snape, in Contemporary British History, suggests that it will be ‘a standard work on the topic for a considerable time’.
