                            - This paper results from an integrated international collaboration involving the Military Technical College (Cairo, Egypt), the Gear technology Centre (University of Newcastle, UK) and Carleton University Ontario, Canada). It introduced a new prediction technique for gear failure. Previous research used Artificial Intelligence incorporating vibration, acoustic data, etc. This paper adds an image registration method to provide a more reliable prediction of gear failure progression. The study was part of a body of publications leading to Onsy becoming a known expert and enabling membership of the SAE G-11SHM, Structural Health Monitoring and Management Committee and Co-chair of the international conference COMADEM.
