- This edition offers a radically improved text of the Ciris, based on comprehensive first-hand analysis of manuscript evidence, exhaustive engagement with earlier textual scholarship (fifteenth to twenty-first century), and rigorous and systematic scrutiny of the text (continued from over twenty previous journal publications, and now including over fifty original emendations). The accompanying commentary discusses the Ciris' numerous textual problems, while the introduction presents innovative linguistic, literary and historical arguments for a date of composition between about 45-30 BC. The book also contributes to the study of the language and style of Latin poetry in general.
