- This book of essays contains seventeen chapters, commissioned from established and emerging critics of poetry. Williams conceived the volume, inspired by, though largely independent of, a conference he organized in 2012. With his co-editor, he proposed it to the press, steered it through the process of peer review, edited all chapters (providing detailed feedback on drafts), and co-wrote a substantial introduction (7,000 words). Williams also contributed a chapter, ‘Lear and the Fool’ (12,000 words), exploring Lear’s complex relationship to his literary namesake King Lear.
