                            - The novelty of this study, a collaboration with HK Polytechnic and Warwick Universities, lies in the development of the first 3D multi-phase composite structure with tailorable Poisson’s ratio and stiffness. The developed composite material has applications in automotive, aeronautic and defence industries as an advanced lightweight/high performance structural material. The study also comprises preliminary research for the development of a wider range of mechanical metamaterials through programming their internal structures according to the needs of different applications (such as energy/vibration absorption, crack resistance and self-healing properties) and led to follow-on funding from EPSRC for the development of hybrid joints (EP/T020695/1).
