                            - The paper is the result of a multi-disciplinary international collaboration with colleagues at ETH Zurich and Lancaster University. It ascertains the mechanics of prolonged irradiated cladding, a major public health and environmental concern. The study is particularly timely because of the imminent end-of-life decommissioning of the UK’s aging reactors. Decommissioning of nuclear reactors will generate £1.7 billion/annum for the UK plc, with the SME share being up to 21%. The knowledge generated in the paper is relevant to future nuclear decommissioning, and also to the UK’s growing number of space satellites, which are subject to cosmic irradiation.
